Be Storm Ready

Lisa Cochrane Strata News

As we all look forward to the summer months and the holiday season is it important to remember that summer can be a period that brings extreme weather events including storms and fires. As storm and fire season is now upon us, we encourage you to work with your Strata Communities to be ‘Storm Ready’. Below are some suggestions for your Communities:

General Property Maintenance
  • Check the condition of the roof and repair any areas that require attention – loose tiles, eaves and screws
  • Clean gutters and downpipes so water can drain away as quickly as possible
  • Trim trees and overhanging branches
  • Secure loose items that could cause damage in high winds – such as balcony/garden and pool furniture and toys
  • Check all smoke alarms are installed and tested regularly
  • Ensure all electrical items are serviced by a qualified and licensed tradesperson’
  • Any flammable items must be stored or disposed of safely
  • After an Event

If damage has been received, information gathering becomes paramount to ensure that all damage is notified to your insurer. Gather information for all units damaged, being the following:

  • Identify the Unit Number or Common Property Damaged e.g. unit 14 or front common fence, etc.
  • What has been damaged e.g. ceilings, etc
  • In what rooms of the unit e.g. main bedroom, etc.
  • Does the unit have power operating – YES/NO
  • Most Important – Contact Person and Phone Number for unit involved. This is to allow easy access point for an inspection to be made.

If you have received damage and the damage is severe or a resident believes they cannot reside in the unit due to the damage – CHU is there to assist you anytime of the day or night.

  • You can call our Emergency After hours hotline: EMERGENCY AFTER HOURS HOTLINE: 1800 022 444
